Bic Runga says 'Sway' found its way to Filipino fans as she sings with the Philippine Philharmonic Orchestra
New Zealand singer-songwriter Bic Runga told The Manila Times she was humbled by how her hit 'Sway' found its way to the Philippines, after performing it with the Philippine Philharmonic Orchestra at the New Zealand Embassy's Experience New Zealand event, and said she would love to come back and do a whole show.
New Zealand singer-songwriter and producer Bic Runga visited the Philippines following the release of her latest album, Red Sunset, The Manila Times reported on 22 October.
During her stay, Runga performed at Experience New Zealand, an event hosted by the New Zealand Embassy, where she sang her single "Sway" with the Philippine Philharmonic Orchestra. "It was amazing. It was such an experience. I can't believe I'm here," she told the paper.
Over Here Manila reported that Experience New Zealand was a free event at The Concourse, One Ayala, in Makati, held by the New Zealand Embassy with Education New Zealand and New Zealand Trade and Enterprise to mark 60 years of diplomatic relations between New Zealand and the Philippines. Organisers also planned to bring Māori performing arts group Ngā Hau E Whā to the stage.
Speaking about how "Sway", from her debut album, continues to resonate with Filipino audiences, Runga said: "I'm really humbled that 'Sway' found its way here because the Filipino taste is quite pure."
Red Sunset comprises 10 tracks co-written and co-produced by Runga. Asked what she would perform on a return visit, she said there were lots of other songs she would like people to know, including "Something Good". "I would love to come back and do a whole show," she said. She also told the paper she had not yet made an acoustic record, and that it was probably the next thing to do.
