Ina, a six-part Filipino-Australian short-form series that had its world premiere at Canneseries 2026, is now streaming on SBS On Demand, SBS Filipino reported. The comedy-drama was created by Filipino-Australian writer-director Rachel Maxine Anderson and takes place over a single day inside a TV studio in Brisbane.
The story follows Madeline, an ambitious producer whose guest chef pulls out, leading her to put her mother Gloria on TV as the replacement. Over episodes named after dishes such as pancit bihon, lumpia and halo-halo, tensions between mother and daughter build until Madeline is forced to reckon with the cultural identity she has spent years holding at arm's length.
According to its producers, Limina Pictures, Ina explores diasporic culture, identity and the intergenerational sacrifices that shape migrant families, and is in English and Tagalog. It was the first series in the Canneseries Official Competition to centre the Filipino diaspora. The series received principal production funding from Screen Australia, in association with Screen Queensland.
Lena Cruz and Triona Calimbayan-Giles star, and the series is produced by Rae Choi and Danielle Redford, with Filipino actress Ruby Ruiz among the executive producers. Each episode runs about seven to 14 minutes.
