Filipino restaurant MK Kusina opens its permanent home at Burns Lake's Lakeside Multiplex
After a summer at the Burns Lake Farmers Market and the Lakes District Fall Fair, Michael Halog and Kae Parcia have opened MK Kusina, a Filipino comfort-food restaurant, at the Lakeside Multiplex concession in British Columbia.
MK Kusina has officially opened its permanent location in Burns Lake, British Columbia, bringing Filipino comfort food to the community year-round, the Lakes District News reported. The restaurant celebrated its official launch on 9 October at the Lakeside Multiplex concession.
The name comes from the Tagalog word for kitchen, with the M and the K standing for the first initials of operators Michael Halog and Kae Parcia. The pair built a following with a stand at the Burns Lake Farmers Market over the summer and by running one of the concessions at the Lakes District Fall Fair, and they credit the reception from local residents for their success.
"What started as a small dream has slowly become a reality because of the love and support from our wonderful Burns Lake Community," the restaurant said in a Facebook post quoted by the paper. "This grand opening is not just a new beginning for us, it's a celebration of everyone who has been part of our journey!"
The Village of Burns Lake approved an operating agreement in August with MK's Kitchen to run the Lakeside Multiplex concession for the 2026-2027 season, according to a Civic IQ summary of the council agenda. The Lakes District News reported that MK Kusina is open Tuesday to Saturday from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m., with special hours during hockey season.
