Canadian Filipino Net opens three paid internships for emerging Filipino Canadian storytellers
Canadian Filipino Net has secured Canadian Heritage funding for a six-month programme that will train two journalism interns and one digital publishing intern. Applications close on November 15, 2026.
Canadian Filipino Net (CFNet), an independent, non-profit digital magazine published by the Maple Bamboo Network Society, has secured funding from Canadian Heritage to develop emerging Filipino Canadian journalists and digital storytellers, CFNet announced on 1 November.
According to CFNet, the funding was awarded through the Canada Periodical Fund's Changing Narratives Fund component. It will support a six-month initiative called NextGen Canadian Filipino Net: Building the Next Generation of Ethnocultural Digital Storytellers, which combines journalism mentorship, digital publishing training and audience development.
The three paid roles
| Role | Positions | What the intern will do |
|---|---|---|
| Journalism and Community Storytelling Intern | 2 | Interviewing, research, news writing and feature storytelling with experienced editors |
| Digital Publishing and Audience Development Intern | 1 | Website publishing, social media, video, graphic design, newsletters and audience engagement |
CFNet said the two journalism interns will produce approximately 36 feature and community stories exploring Filipino Canadian experiences, including immigration, identity, education, employment and civic participation.
How to apply
CFNet's call for applications says no professional experience is required. Applicants are asked to send a brief letter of interest, a résumé, and writing samples or examples of creative or digital work if available, using the subject line "NextGen CFNet Internship Application – [Position]". The deadline is November 15, 2026, and the full call, including the contact address, is on CFNet's website.
"Filipino Canadians have stories that deserve to be shared, not only within our community but across Canada. This support allows us to invest in emerging talent, strengthen our digital presence and create more opportunities for our community to tell its own stories." — Emmy Buccat, President of the Maple Bamboo Network Society
