DMW Secretary Hans Leo Cacdac visits three hospitalised OFWs in Al Khobar on presidential directive

By Kislap Editorial ·

Migrant Workers Secretary Hans Leo Cacdac visited three overseas Filipino workers undergoing treatment at a hospital in Al Khobar on 26 October and assured them their medical and welfare needs would continue to be monitored.

Migrant Workers Secretary Hans Leo Cacdac visited three overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) undergoing medical treatment at a hospital in Al Khobar, Saudi Arabia, on Monday, 26 October, The Filipino Times reported, citing the Department of Migrant Workers (DMW).

The visit was conducted in line with President Ferdinand Marcos Jr.'s directive to ensure that Filipino workers who become ill or require hospitalisation overseas receive appropriate medical care and government support. The Global Filipino Magazine described the trip as carrying out an order for the government to take a hands-on role in the welfare of OFWs who get sick or end up in hospitals overseas.

Who went

Cacdac was accompanied by:

  • DMW Undersecretary Jainal Rasul Jr.
  • Overseas Workers Welfare Administration (OWWA) Deputy Administrator Vincent Ryan Uy
  • Labor Attachés Solaiman Mutia and Geraldine Mendez

At the bedside

During the visit, Cacdac conveyed the government's support to the patients and assured them that their medical and welfare needs would continue to be monitored. The Global Filipino Magazine said he offered the three patients words of hope and encouragement.

The DMW did not disclose the patients' medical conditions, the circumstances of their hospitalisation or whether their illnesses were related to the ongoing security situation in Saudi Arabia. It also did not specify the type or amount of assistance provided to each patient.

The hospital visit formed part of the DMW chief's activities in Al Khobar, where he also met Filipino community leaders to discuss concerns about the safety, health and welfare of migrant workers.

The agency said it remains in coordination with its overseas offices and partner government agencies to facilitate assistance for OFWs requiring medical treatment. It described the visit as a renewed commitment to provide OFWs in difficult situations with assistance that is humane, prompt and suited to their circumstances.
