Fifty distressed OFWs at Jeddah's renovated Bahay Kalinga shelter get SAR 750 each from DMW AKSYON Fund
Fifty distressed Filipino workers in Jeddah, 42 domestic workers and eight male skilled workers, each received SAR 750 from the AKSYON Fund on 29 October while Migrant Workers Secretary Hans Leo Cacdac visited the newly renovated Bahay Kalinga of MWO-Jeddah.
Fifty distressed overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) in Jeddah each received SAR 750 from the government's AKSYON Fund on 29 October, The Global Filipino Magazine reported. The group included 42 domestic workers and eight male skilled workers.
Department of Migrant Workers (DMW) and Migrant Workers Office (MWO) officials handed out the money while Migrant Workers Secretary Hans Leo J. Cacdac was visiting the newly renovated Bahay Kalinga of MWO-Jeddah.
A shelter while cases are resolved
The facility shelters OFWs in distress who need a place to stay, along with support, while their cases are resolved. According to the DMW, the renovation was meant to give these workers safer and more comfortable housing. The Filipino Times reported in December 2025 that DMW and MWO-Jeddah officials had visited the same Bahay Kalinga to check on distressed OFWs and assure them of welfare assistance, legal guidance and safe shelter.
Cacdac was joined in Jeddah by DMW Undersecretary Jainal R. Rasul Jr., Philippine Consul General Rommel Romato, and labor attachés Geraldine Mendez and Fidel Macauyag.
Third leg of the mission
The Jeddah stop is the third leg of Cacdac's Solidarity and Services Mission in Saudi Arabia, which follows the closure of King Khalid International Airport in Riyadh. The DMW said on 23 October that it had assisted 2,061 Filipino workers across the kingdom hit by the disruption, including 260 in Jeddah, with money drawn from the AKSYON Fund and OWWA's Emergency Repatriation Fund under the UPLIFT Assistance Program.
Cacdac praised the dedication of the Philippine labor team in Saudi Arabia and called for close coordination among the DMW, the Philippine Embassy, the Consulate General and the MWOs so that Filipinos in need get help quickly and effectively.
