Filipina in Kuwait reports losing KD 1,000 to company that promised her a job in Germany

By Kislap Editorial ·

A Filipina in Kuwait has filed a police complaint in Hawalli Governorate after paying KD 1,000 in cash to a company that promised a job in Germany, only to find its office closed and its management unreachable.

A Filipino woman in Kuwait has filed a complaint at a police station in Hawalli Governorate after allegedly paying KD 1,000 to a company that promised to arrange a job for her in Germany, Times Kuwait reported, citing Al-Anba daily. She later found the company's offices closed and its management unreachable.

How it happened

The woman told police she had seen an advertisement by a company offering lucrative job opportunities in several European countries. She visited the company's headquarters around two months ago to inquire and was told a position was available in Germany.

The company's management requested KD 1,000 to complete the contracting procedures, and she paid the amount in cash. After waiting without receiving any confirmation that her application had progressed, she returned to the premises, found the offices closed and was unable to contact anyone from the management.

Pilipino sa Kuwait, citing Arab Times, said the complaint was referred for investigation to establish the circumstances and determine responsibility.

Not the first Europe job case

In September, Arab Times reported that the owner of an employment agency was arrested after complaints from around 25 expatriates, mostly Asian, who alleged they had been promised jobs and work visas in European countries.

Those complainants said they paid between KD 2,000 and KD 2,500 per transaction, but the promised opportunities never materialized. The suspect reportedly admitted receiving the money and acknowledged that returning it would be difficult.
