Filipino-owned Siesta Wellness Hub opens in Birmingham, bringing the Philippine siesta to the city
Siesta Wellness Hub, a Filipino-owned beauty and wellness centre founded by Celeste Garghan, has officially opened in Birmingham with a ribbon-cutting led by the Lord Mayor, Councillor Zaker Choudhry.
Siesta Wellness Hub, a Filipino-owned beauty and wellness centre founded by entrepreneur Celeste Garghan, has officially opened in Birmingham with a ribbon-cutting ceremony led by the Lord Mayor of Birmingham, Councillor Zaker Choudhry, West Mids Life reported on 26 October. Tinig UK said the hub would open its doors to clients on 24 October.
The hub is at 100 Morville Street, Birmingham B16 8BA, in a tranquil setting alongside Birmingham's canals. It is inspired by the Filipino tradition of the siesta, or afternoon nap.
"Where I was born in the Philippines, a siesta is a short afternoon nap – a chance to rest and rejuvenate after working hard, so you feel refreshed and ready for the next day. I wanted to share that joy of rest and relaxation with more people."
Garghan said the idea was deeply personal. "I came to the UK in 2015 and noticed how many people were struggling with stress. I felt it myself, too, and it made me realise how important it is to take time to rest and recharge," she told West Mids Life.
What the hub offers
According to Tinig UK, the centre offers beauty and aesthetics services, treatment rooms, an infrared sauna and relaxation spaces. West Mids Life said Siesta also has ambitions to develop as a collaborative wellness destination, working with independent practitioners and local businesses.
Community and Events Coordinator Loralie Canale told Tinig UK: "With our owners' Filipino roots, guests can expect the warmth, generosity and genuine hospitality the Philippines is known for, alongside experiences dedicated to beauty, relaxation and wellbeing."
Tinig UK noted that the latest Birmingham and Solihull Pharmaceutical Needs Assessment found nearly 9% of Birmingham residents reported experiencing frequent loneliness, higher than the national average of 6.8%, and said Siesta hopes to become part of the network of Filipino community spaces in the UK by hosting wellness activities.
Opening hours are Tuesday to Saturday, 10am to 7pm, with Sunday and Monday by appointment only.
