In the 2025/26 financial year, Immigration New Zealand approved more than 6,200 Philippine student visa applications, marking a 31% increase from the previous year. This growth positions the Philippines as the fastest-growing source country by scale from Southeast Asia for New Zealand's education sector, as reported by Voice of Asia.

A primary draw for Filipino students and families is New Zealand's consistent and predictable immigration policies. Unlike some other countries, New Zealand's settings offer a clearer pathway from a study visa to a post-study work visa, and for those who secure employment and meet specific criteria, a route to residency. Many young Filipinos are pursuing postgraduate studies, often using their degrees as a vehicle for family relocation.
