Hilda Koronel's Filipino historical thriller 'Sisa' to close the 30th Vancouver Asian Film Festival
'Sisa', Jun Robles Lana's Tagalog-language historical thriller starring Hilda Koronel, has been selected as the closing night film of the 30th Vancouver Asian Film Festival, with a Canadian premiere screening scheduled at Scotiabank Theatre Vancouver on 14 November.
The Filipino historical thriller 'Sisa' has been selected as the closing night film for the 30th Vancouver Asian Film Festival (VAFF), INQUIRER.net USA reported. The screening is scheduled for 14 November at Scotiabank Theatre Vancouver, and the festival programme lists it as a Canadian premiere.
VAFF described the film as "a gripping historical revenge espionage thriller set during one of the most turbulent chapters in Philippine history". The festival said it explores resistance, betrayal and trauma during the Philippines' struggle for independence from American rule, and praised director Jun Robles Lana's "bold and unforgettable" storytelling.
The 115-minute Tagalog-language film stars veteran Filipina actress Hilda Koronel in her first film role in 13 years, alongside Eugene Domingo and Jennica Garcia.
'Sisa' made its North American debut in July at the Asian American International Film Festival in New York, and earlier this year won the Best Screenplay Award at the Fantasporto International Film Festival in Portugal, INQUIRER.net USA reported.
