Filipino-American golfer Jaden Dumdumaya closed with a 72 to finish tied 13th on 289 at the Asia-Pacific Amateur Championship at Te Arai Links in New Zealand, where Thailand's Fifa Laopakdee retained the title.

Jaden Dumdumaya finished tied 13th at the Asia-Pacific Amateur Championship at Te Arai Links in New Zealand on Sunday, closing with a 72 for a four-round total of 289, Philstar reported. The official leaderboard lists him at five over par, level with China's Zenghao Hou and New Zealand's Zach May.

Philstar described Dumdumaya as the Filipino-American World No. 67. In the final round he bounced back from a bogey on No. 2 with birdies on Nos. 5, 10, 13 and 14 to climb to joint sixth. He then made a double bogey on No. 15 and dropped two more strokes on No. 17.

The other Filipinos in the field

Shinichi Suzuki posted a second consecutive 76 to tie for 53rd at 307, Philstar reported. The other two Philippine representatives, Rolando Bregente and Chris Remata, missed the cut; the official leaderboard shows Bregente on 81 and 77 and Remata on 84 and 81.

Laopakdee retains the title

Thailand's Fifa Laopakdee closed with a one-under 70 for a 72-hole total of 278 to retain the title. According to the Asia-Pacific Golf Confederation, he finished three shots ahead of overnight leader Swanwick of New Zealand, four clear of Australia's Kayun Mudadana and five in front of New Zealand's Cooper Moore, and they were the only players to end in red figures.

Philstar said the turning point came on No. 11, where Swanwick made a triple bogey while Laopakdee sank a birdie putt, a four-shot swing. The confederation said Laopakdee is just the second player in the championship's 17-year history to successfully defend the title, following Japan's Hideki Matsuyama in 2010 and 2011.

The win secured Laopakdee another invitation to next year's Masters, along with a berth in The Open, Philstar reported.
