Paskuhan Christchurch 2026, which organiser Banyuhay Aotearoa calls the biggest Filipino Christmas celebration in the South Island, returns for its second year on Sunday 29 November 2026 at The Commons, 70 Kilmore Street, Christchurch. The ChristchurchNZ listing gives the hours as 10:00 am to 5:00 pm and lists it as a free event.
According to the organiser, the day features local Filipino talents performing on stage, food stalls, retail stalls for Christmas shopping, and community booths about local service providers and community organisations. Visitors can see traditional Filipino decor such as the parol (Filipino Christmas lantern), make their own parols at the parol-making corner, join community games that are uniquely Pinoy, and sing along to Filipino and other popular Christmas tunes.
Banyuhay Aotearoa is also running a Parol-Making Contest open to individuals, schools and community groups, limited to residents of Christchurch, Canterbury and surrounding South Island regions. Entries must be a traditional star-shaped lantern with tasseled tails; the star must be at least 750mm and at most 1,500mm including an optional ring, and the parol can weigh no more than 3kg.
The registration deadline for the contest is 31 October 2026. Parols are dropped off at The Commons on 28 November 2026 between 2 PM and 6 PM, and winners will be announced on 29 November 2026 during the main event. Prizes, sponsored by the Philippine Consulate of Christchurch, are $500 for the Grand Prize, $200 for 1st Runner-up and $100 for 2nd Runner-up.
The organiser says the event can be reached from the Kilmore Street Town Hall bus stop on the #1, #29 or #95 buses. Attendees who register on the event page go in the draw for raffle prizes drawn on the day; winners must be present to claim.
