Philippine Embassy in Japan honours new Filipino Professionals in Japan group
Ambassador Mylene Garcia-Albano hosted an appreciation dinner for Filipino Professionals in Japan (FPiJ), a non-profit association formed in July 2026 that is building a directory, mentorship and regional groups for Filipino professionals across Japan.
The Philippine Embassy in Japan has hosted an appreciation dinner for Filipino Professionals in Japan (FPiJ), a newly organised community group, at the Ambassador's Official Residence, the embassy announced on 23 October. The embassy said the gathering, held in the 70th year of Philippines-Japan friendship, recognised the contributions of Filipino professionals to strengthening bilateral relations.
Ambassador Mylene J. Garcia-Albano said the modern Filipino diaspora in Japan is increasingly made up of highly skilled professionals, and that their achievements contribute directly to Japan's socio-economic landscape while fuelling the growth, development and global prestige of the Philippines.
"You exemplify excellence and leadership in your respective fields and help create stronger foundations for cooperation and collaboration between the Philippines and Japan."
FPiJ Interim Board Member Francis Yu thanked the Ambassador for her support since the organisation began, and said FPiJ is willing to partner with the Embassy and other Filipino community organisations on initiatives that promote opportunities for Filipino professionals and the welfare of the Filipino community in Japan.
What FPiJ is
FPiJ describes itself as a voluntary, non-profit, non-partisan association of Filipino professionals and supporters in Japan. According to the embassy, the group was first proposed by Ambassador Garcia-Albano in 2025, and FPiJ's website says it was formally established on 18 July 2026.
The association offers a member directory searchable by profession, industry and specialisation, two-way mentorship, sector and regional groups across Japan, and coordination with the Philippine Embassy and the Migrant Workers Office.
- Regular members: Filipino citizens or people of Filipino descent living in Japan with professional, academic or entrepreneurial experience, with full voting rights.
- Associate members: non-Filipino professionals and supporters, or Filipinos based outside Japan.
- Honorary members: conferred by the Board by invitation.
FPiJ says its first Annual General Meeting and elections follow in December, and it is inviting professionals to join its founding cohort.
