Philippine Embassy in Qatar assists 130 Filipinos from Saudi Arabia transiting Doha on the way home
The Philippine Embassy in Qatar, with the Migrant Workers Office and OWWA, assisted 62 Filipinos from Hail on 29 October and 68 from Qassim on 30 October as they transited Hamad International Airport en route to Manila. Ambassador Mardomel Celo Melicor met the returning Filipinos at the airport.
The Philippine Embassy in Qatar assisted 130 Filipinos returning from Saudi Arabia through Doha, BNC reported on 3 November.
The embassy, in coordination with the Migrant Workers Office and the Overseas Workers Welfare Administration (OWWA), assisted 62 Filipinos from Hail on 29 October and another 68 from Qassim on 30 October. The repatriates transited through Qatar's Hamad International Airport en route to Manila.
Philippine Ambassador to Qatar Mardomel Celo Melicor personally met the returning Filipinos at the airport to check on their welfare and facilitate their journey home.
"The Philippine Embassy in Doha assists all Filipino nationals on repatriation journeys that pass by Qatar, whether arriving by land or by air," Melicor said in a statement.
Why the flights route through other airports
BusinessMirror reported on 27 October that Riyadh's King Khalid International Airport stopped its operations on 10 October. OWWA Administrator Patricia Yvonne M. Caunan said there were no direct flights between Riyadh and Manila, which prompted the agency to transport Filipino workers to other airports in Saudi Arabia.
"That is why we are transporting our fellow countrymen to Dammam Airport, Qassim Airport, and Hail Airport," Caunan said.
BNC said the Philippine Embassy in Doha continues to coordinate transit arrangements and provide airport and welfare assistance to Filipinos returning home.
