Philippine Embassy in Tokyo approves 800-plus overseas voter applications and sets 7–8 November voter education days

By Kislap Editorial ·

The Philippine Embassy in Japan approved more than 800 overseas voting registration applications at its third RERB hearing on 19 October, a 60 percent rise on July, and will hold voter education and registration on 7 and 8 November.

The Philippine Embassy in Japan approved more than 800 overseas voting registration applications at its third Resident Election Registration Board (RERB) hearing on 19 October 2026, the embassy said on 27 October. The applications were received between 1 July and 30 September 2026.

The embassy said that was a 60 percent increase from its previous RERB hearing on 20 July, which had approved more than 500 applications. It credited the rise to added personnel and extended registration during weekend consular outreach missions and Filipino community events outside Tokyo.

Acting Consul General and RERB Chairperson Robert D. Quintin presided over the hearing, joined by Labor Attaché Ramon Lamberto C. Pastrana and Consular Assistant and Attaché Hazel B Peña as board members.

Voter education on 7 and 8 November

The embassy will run a Regional Overseas Voter's Education and Information Dissemination Activity for the 2028 National Elections Overseas, explaining the basic features of online voting and preparations for the 2028 presidential elections. It is open to the Filipino community in Japan and will be held in two batches, on 7 and 8 November 2026, from 9am to 5pm.

Participants can sign up for either date through the embassy's links, bit.ly/7NovOVTokyo for the first batch and bit.ly/8NovOVTokyo for the second. Overseas voting registration services will also be available on both days.

Registration closes September 2027

Registration for overseas voting closes on 30 September 2027. The embassy is encouraging eligible Filipinos in Japan to submit their applications and supporting documents at its Consular Section or at a consular outreach mission, and to fill in their forms through the COMELEC iRehistro portal. Applicants living outside Tokyo were advised to follow the embassy's website and social media for mobile registration schedules.
