Choosing an early learning service
Published
Reviewed · Next review
Compare service types, hours, costs and review reports before enrolling your child.
The Ministry of Education recommends looking at the early learning services in your area and understanding the different types. Opening hours, the ages accepted and waiting lists vary between services. Arrange a visit and ask the service about the hours and places available for your child.
Ask for the complete costs, including attendance fees, optional charges, food and what happens when your child is absent. The Ministry's choosing-a-service page links to current funding assistance and Education Review Office reports. Use those official links rather than assuming every service or family receives the same subsidy.
