Converting an overseas driver licence
Published
Reviewed · Next review
Use NZTA's conversion pathway for your licence type and issuing country.
Conversion steps depend on the country that issued your licence. NZTA lists exempt countries and links to separate car, motorcycle and truck conversion instructions. Check the current list and the pathway for your licence; do not assume a Philippine licence follows an exempt-country process.
Apply through a specialist overseas conversion driver licensing agent. If your licence or permit is not in English, NZTA says an accurate English translation is needed and lists approved translators. Read the linked instructions for documents, tests, fees and any conditions on the converted licence before booking.
