Enrolling your children in school
Published
Reviewed · Next review
Contact the school about enrolment and check your child's student status and school zone.
Contact the school to find out its enrolment process. INZ distinguishes domestic and international students and says you may need evidence of your child's visa status. Read the eligibility guidance for the child rather than assuming a parent's work visa alone settles every enrolment question.
The official guide links to Ministry of Education information about school zones and enrolment schemes. Check the zone for the address where your child will live and ask the school about out-of-zone applications. If your child has already had schooling and is arriving as a newcomer, INZ says enrolment can take place at any time of year.
