Use IPONZ's trade mark search and registration guidance when choosing a business name or logo.
IPONZ explains that a trade mark can distinguish goods or services through words, logos or other signs. Registration protects use of the mark for the goods and services it covers; it is not a blanket claim to every use of a word.
Use Trade Mark Check to look for similar marks on the New Zealand Register, then read the search, preliminary-advice and application guidance. Check the current fees and examination process on IPONZ rather than assuming registration is automatic.
